I called on Good Friday hoping someone had cancelled their resv and I would slide in. Bingo! I arrived a little earlier than check-in on Sat and got right in. I had a site right on Middle Lake on Gator Rd. The sites are paved, level, large, and have tons of space in-between. I was near the bathhouse, which was clean and decent. I enjoy biking and the paved trails made this a dream park for me. The pool area was nice and the camp store had alot of variety. I didn't make it to the Nature Center, but will next time. Wifi was non-existent; however, cellular was fine. I will plan a trip back due the niceness of this campground and what the area has to offer.

Been coming here for about 30 years. Love it, but, they need a better way to do their reservations. Said they were booked for week but we saw lots of sites available. It's a newer and better park, but it's a shame they can't book better.

What else can I say? The bath houses are nice, sites are large, lots of nature. Just a short drive or bike ride to the beach. This campground is HUGE. We always try to stay on one of the back road areas because there is always a lot of traffic on the main road area.

Thus is a huge park (our spot 388 and more to go) so where you are can make a difference. That said there is lots to do and most of that is listed in reviews below. No shade in our area but the sites are level and paved. Showers clean and warm ( it is 45 this evening). No internet or cable but we are just passing through. Watch out for the extra charges though. The site was $31. Sounds great but by the time all the charges were added it was $45!

Not my type of campground. Love the state parks most of the time but this is basically just a giant parking lot with rows of sites, lots of traffic, few trees and not much around but the beach and you have to drive to a parking lot then hike across to reach the water.

Just got home from five day stay in our new Travel Trailer. Clean level sites with a few shaded. Very curtious and helpful employees. Looked at several campgrounds before driving into this one and it was an easy choice after that.

This is a great state park with a lot to do and great amenities. Sites are clean and level. Price includes access to all state park areas including their 3 mile beach.

Very nice state park with nicely laid out RV sites. Plenty of trees to provide shade and privacy. Wonderful bike paths and areas for hiking. A lovely place to stay.
By user-5814548... on 2017-10-23.
The park is very nice, but everything is quite a hike. Pool, Store dumpsters and amenities need a car or bike to get to. Unfortunatly it was raining most of the time and wifi does not work, per the office.

The campground is nice and a natural area with walking paths and pier access. Very large campground, we'll spaced but a little pricey for what you get.

Great park. Wide open lots of trees but not lots of shade depending on where you park. Check in people were very nice and kind and accommodating to this old dude. I was very impressed. Wish that the Wi-Fi was better and that they had cable but that may come later. Guess that I need to get a satellite box. Lots and lots and miles and miles of hiking trails over the water and through Little Lake area really nice. They are in the process of building an overwalk to the gulf beach

This is a nice park, but there are lots of nice parks around here. The reservation clerk quoted me $35, but by the time I was done it was $42, so 7 days cost me just under $300. I won't be back. The area is nice, but I'll stay elsewhere.

Plenty of campsites. Tons of things to do. A great fenced dog park within a mile. Nice hiking trails. We loved it.

This is a large state park. Nice level sights, few shady spots. Nice view if you can get on the water. Nice bathrooms, nice camp store, nice laundry facilities, nice pool. The only downside: NO internet, NO cable. Very crowded when we first arrived but then schools started, and it was wonderful! Jellyfish kept us out of the ocean!
By user-5887413... on 2017-10-23.
This is a very nice, large park. Beware of charges though. When I made my reservation, I was quoted about $50.00 a night, which was worth being close to the beach. When I checked in, another 11.00 a night was added for extra fees. One was a recreational fee but the pool is closed for the winter. Buyer beware.
By user-6238175... on 2017-10-23.
We love this park. We have a 37 ft motor home and the sites are accommodating for all sizes. Most have electricity, sewer and water hookups. There are tons of hiking and biking trails. You do have to drive to the beach and walk over but it wasn't busy at all during the off season. The beach is beautiful and very clean. The only drawback is that this area is prone to cocker burs and with dogs it was hard to find a place for them to go to the bathroom without getting them in their feet. We constantly had to check them, us and then the motor home for burs. We definitely will come back.

Great park - huge. Sites have a lot of room - most nestled under tall pines. Facilities are clean. Personnel are helpful and friendly. Miles of roads & trails for hiking & biking; tennis courts; golf course, pool and more. WiFi useless due to being overloaded. Good 4G coverage. Make rez early.
By user-5273770... on 2017-10-23.
Check in at Gulf State Park is convenient and almost like checking in at a hotel. It's like a visitor center. Beautiful facilities. Pool, though too cold to use, was beautiful. Gift shop also had camping supplies and basic grocery items. The bike trail was beautiful. Actually, you can get anywhere in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and up towards Perdido Key (Florabama) via bike. We didn't use a car while we were there. The park was also VERY quiet and peaceful.

By user-4822589... on 2018-03-14.
Very spacious sites. Nice vegetation near each site. Exceptionally clean, well maintained bath houses. Lots of amenities such as a dog park, pool, tennis courts, volleyball, launch ramps and miles of paved and unpaved trails for biking and walking.

We spent ten nights at Gulf State Park in our 40’ fifth wheel. The campground is very large but is just a small portion of this huge state park. We stayed in one of the pull-through sites along Raccoon Rd. The site was a very long and level asphalt curve with a large patio in the middle. There was more than enough room for our rig, our tow vehicle and our car. Although our site was centrally located, we would probably not stay on Raccoon Rd. in the future due to noise from the road traffic. The hookups at the site were very good and located conveniently. There are numerous amenities in the park, too many to mention. The laundry room is the size of a commercial laundromat. The beach pavilion and fishing pier are across the road from the campground and are available to campers for no additional cost. There are an almost unlimited number of trails for hiking and bicycling. The only negative was the cost which was higher than most state parks. In addition to the quoted rate for a site, there is an 11% sales tax, a 15% resort tax and a $4 registration fee. Our cost for 10 nights exceeded $42 per night. Given the amenities offered by the park, this isn’t unreasonable but it was considerably more than we had expected to pay for a state park.

Beautiful park with large campsites that are level and many have shade trees. We stayed this year near the bay with no trees but it was cool enough that was not an issue. The beaches in Orange Beach are amazing.

What a nice park! We arrived around 10pm and we're warmly greeted. The lady checking us in was very helpful. The park is large but not crowded. Walking around, I didn't see any spots that were not good. All had level pads and plenty of space. Lots of trees and paved trails. This is now my favorite RV park.

Great site. Check-in on April 1 a big mess. They has 248 people checking in only 2 check in clerks at desk. Rv 5 wide in very long line. Not a Cheap park $904.00/ month of April. Lots of Alabama taxes. View from site great in site # 473 Full hookup good. No tv sat but over air works fine. They have unsecured wi-fi that really does not work at all. Pads level asphalt. Roads good. One trash dump for all of park. Your park pass gets you Free admission to walk long ocean pier And free admit to the beach parking areas.

We love the Gulf Shores / Orange Beach area and have tried various RV parks. We keep going back to the State Park. The sites are generous in size, and they are spaced out for plenty of privacy. If I had a complaint, it would be the lack of WiFi connection at the sites. I think it’s good in the area of the store, Adventure Center, and pool. I just use my Verizon data. As with anywhere, there are a couple of disgruntled employees in the check-in office, but most are friendly and courteous. Make reservations well in advance especially for holidays. We are happy campers in this park.

We loved camping here with our 32 ft travel trailer. Stayed at site along river. Loved it there. Quick access to beaches with bike or walking. Long bike trails along boardwalks. Clean facilities, pool, laundry, fish cleaning stations. Clean bathrooms. Weekly activities planned. Large concrete pads. Lots of fun things to do in area. Highly recommend this place.

We've stayed several times. Nice level sites, some a long a water inlet, most with trees and scrubs. Love the park!

Great place but good luck getting a site Jan-March. Book early. Husband wanted to give it a one-star rating in hopes of clearing a few sites for us! Has every amenity you'd ever want.

Easy and friendly check-in. Level sites that are spacious. We love to bike and spent a LOT of time on the trails! We have a motorhome but no tow vehicle and we biked the trails to the beach and to Walmart for supplies. We enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay by 2 days! Clean showers and bathrooms. Great onsite pool. Will def come back again!!

All has been written about this park - awesome - and we have seen a LOT of other (state) parks, this one is the best. We don't give it a 10 because they offer free Wifi but it is not existing at all. No problem - all the rest makes up for it. Great bicycling, 25 miles paved, great beach, great people. We will be back (if we are in the neighborhood).

For our family, we found our getaway destination. Wanna hike, bike, freshwater fish, saltwater fish, pool swim, be a beach bum or just hang out in the woods and relax, it s all here. 24 hour laundry, 24 hour ice, onsite general store. Gate staff could be a little more insightful but a great stay.
