Rude Owner
By user-6658761... on 2017-10-23.
Reserved a rental car from this RV Campground. Provided credit card and all associated info. Was promised an email confirmation. Didn't hear back after two days, called, told, "yeah you didn't get the confirmation because I didn't send it yet". Two days later same thing. A week later called again, told I'll buddy didn't get to it. When I questioned further he said, "how about if I just cancel your reservation"?

Perfect base camp

If you need a nice, quiet, large spaces, friendly base camp while exploring the local area, this is one of the best you will find. they are really busy, so make your reservations early. we had one of the 'electric only' sites, but it was perfect for our use. I wish all the places we pay for were as nice as this one. 40' big rig. no issues for larger RV's

Do not try to ask about early check in
By user-4611869... on 2017-10-23.
Location 5 stars owner 0 stars. We arrived half an hour early which is fine but when told oh the space was not available yet also fine. But to be treated like a petulant child by the owner whose salary we pay was completely unacceptable. Even when I tried speaking with him about how we were treated poorly and rudely. Owner just walked away without an apology for the miscommunication Travellers beware

Summer 2016
By user-5804917... on 2017-10-23.
When we made our reservations in January we didn't know what to expect when we arrived. What we found was a very nice RV Park 28th big spaces and lots of room between sites. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are fair (except for ice... Wow!!!). We had a nasty t-storm blow through but because we are in a valley the sheer winds kind of blew over the top of us!!! I love being in the Black Hills of South Dakota; we've been here many times... Custer's Gulch is a great place to homebase.

We spent an hour trying to find State Park Campgrounds only to learn you had to have a reservation and pay an additional $20 to enter the park. Custer's Gulch was nearby, so we decided to try it. However, the Google directions on this site were incorrect, so we fortunately saw their sign and turned on Golden Valley Rd. It's about a half mile from the highway in a lovely, peaceful valley. The sites are spacious and level with grassy areas between each one. The whole park is well-groomed and immaculate. They had a small laundry (two washers & two dryers). It also had the best internet connection we've ever had at an RV park. We spent two nights, and it was very convenient to see the local sights. I would definitely recommend this park!

A MUST STAY!
By user-6711432... on 2017-10-23.
Its off a logging road. The gps was taking us in circles so use the big sign to locate. Great view, very quiet. Lots are very spacious. Campground is centrally located. Very clean. Staff was very helpful. For breakfast or lunch you must goto Bakers bakery and cafe in custer. The wild life loop road was the best. Got stuck in a herd of buffalo for over 45mins. The burrows was even better. Make sure to have windows up. Would want to live here if we could.

Beautiful park
By user-4611869... on 2017-10-23.
Loved the scenic location huge sites and quiet. We did have a rough check in with the younger gentleman that also is in charge of renting the atvs, but the customer service provided by the older couple more than made up for it. Our truck had broken down and the folks in the office were wonderful in helping making arrangements. We will be staying again.

So we were last minute this site... Was on a crazy, Yellowstone.. devils tower and then to Mount Rushmore , Crazy horse.. adventure.. with the wife and kids.. I pulled in after hrs and was placed in a great big site .. for my tiny 19 footer.. was so much room between me and everyone else.. I had no contact with the owner.. because I didn't need to.. as a camper I was prepared to camp.. it was dark! The stars were out in full effect!! Dancing for us.. We took so many pictures of us just relaxing . It what camping is all about.. thank you for making my family a memorable trip.

Park is well maintained gravel sites with grass. Location is good for Rushmore, Crazyhorse and Custer. Restrooms and showers were respectable. Gravel road entrance, water is brown (we didn t drink it), don t buy propane here $4 per gallon Ouch! Not sure where all the 5 star reviews are coming from, this is an average park at best. Stay at Custer State Park if you can much nicer.

Large, grassy lots with lovely trees and rocks all around. Good crushed rock road off the hwy, crushed rock pads, mostly level. No frills, no pool, no dog park etc, but loads of peace and quiet with a million stars. Good wifi, good Verizon but only a few PBS channels will pull in from antenna. Easy access to all local attractions. Cute little town of Custer 4 miles away. Bathhouse looks clean, but we didn't use. We enjoyed our stay, would return.

Close to Custer and Custer SP

We stayed here for three nights visiting Custer SP and riding Needles and Iron Horse highways. When we checked in the lady told us our registration was made for four nights and that we would have to unhook our motorcycle trailer and place it in their storage area. I started to get upset more about unhooking than the extra night. She was very accommodating and put us in a nice pull through site that fit us perfectly. The park was situated just down the road from the Sylvan Lake entrance to the park and was very convenient to downtown Custer. Aside from being charged the extra night, it was a pleasant campground. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Motorhome.
